New Glacial Geology Publication & Field Trip

New publication describing the glacial geology of Chippewa County & Sept. glacial geology field trip

A new bulletin describing the glacial geology of Chippewa County, WI,
has been published and is available for purchase.  The bulletin (which includes a colored 1:100,000-scale geologic map and cross sections) is available from the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey [WGNHS] for $15 plus shipping and handling.  This publication would be ideal for people interested in the glacial history of Wisconsin.  See http://www.uwex.edu/wgnhs/b103.htm for more information.  Unfolded copies of the colored geologic map also are available for purchase.  Call the WGNHS Map Sales office for more information (telephone 608/263.7389), stop by their office at 3817 Mineral Point Road, Madison, Wisconsin 53705-5100, or use their order form http://www.uwex.edu/wgnhs/pdfs/orderpdf/order.pdf  .

In addition, I will be leading a Saturday glacial geology field trip for laypersons in Chippewa County on September 27, 2008, to "roll out" this publication.  This field trip will help people understand how a glacial geologist gathers and interprets data to in order to understand the geologic history “puzzle.”  The trip will be valuable for teachers, Ice Age Trail enthusiasts, and others who wish to understand the natural landscape.  The Chippewa Moraine Ice Age Reserve will be the site of a couple of the field trip stops.  The trip is also very appropriate for motivated students and their parents.  The field course will be run through UWEC Continuing Education and should be a fun time.  If you are interested, see http://www.uwec.edu/ce/enrichment/life/glacial/index.htm  or please contact me if you have other questions.
