Tune In to "In Wisconsin" for Another Ice Age Trail Feature
This Thursday evening at 7 pm, Wisconsin Public Television's "In Wisconsin" program will have yet another feature on the Ice Age Trail. Videographer and editor Chuck France walked the Manitowoc County portion of the Ice Age Trail; his piece for "In Wisconsin" shows how the Trail winds through both natural and urban areas, showcasing the unique landscape and culture of this county that edges Lake Michigan. If case you aren't able to tune in on Thursday, the feature will also be available online starting Wednesday evening at http://www.wpt.org/inwisconsin/.
Tips for Hiking during the Hunt
Those keen on getting some fresh air on the Ice Age Trail after filling up on turkey should keep the following in mind to ensure a safe jaunt:
- State Parks are often the best locations for hunting-free segments of the Ice Age Trail. However, in many cases, parts of the park remain open for the hunt. Call ahead to the park of interest (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/findapark.html) for more details.
- Wear blaze-orange clothing while hiking during hunting seasons.
- Some private landowners hosting Ice Age Trail segments reserve the right to close the segment during hunting seasons. Many of the segments (including portions of the Table Bluff Segment, featured in the latest issue of Mammoth Tales) that are closed for hunting are listed in the Ice Age Trail Companion Guide. You can also contact your local volunteer chapter coordinator (http://www.iceagetrail.org/chapter.htm) for info on segment closings.
The Ice Age Trail relies on the generosity of hundreds of private landowners. For the future of the Trail, it is vital that Trail users respect property owners' rights. If you visit a segment and see signage indicating that it is closed, DO NOT continue your hike. Thank you for your cooperation...the Ice Age Trail depends on it!

Construction of New IAPTF Main Office Building in Cross Plains Continues to Hum Along
As mentioned in the last edition of Ice Age Trail eNews, the IAPTF will soon be moving into a new building on 2110 Main Street in Cross Plains. Building construction continues to move along at an impressive pace. The estimated move-in date is mid-January of 2009.
Our staff members can hardly wait! Upon move-in, we'll have the majority of our staff under one roof for the first time in several years.
Note: When writing to us, you can use the 2110 Main Street address even though we're not quite there yet, as the USPS has graciously allowed us to use it while we're at our temporary quarters on Bourbon Road in Cross Plains.
Monty the Mammoth Soon to be Roaming the Ice Age Trail?
Check out the story "Regenerating a Mammoth for $10 Million" from The New York Times at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/20/science/20mammoth.html?emc=rss&partner=rss. Perhaps in another 20 years, IAPTF merchandise isn't the only place where we'll be seeing Monty!
