October 2007 Trail Dispatch

Coming Up: Parade of Colors Hike, Saturday, Oct. 6

Don’t miss the annual Parade of Colors Hike on Saturday, Oct. 6!

Beautiful colors, a wonderful trail, good company, great fall hiking weather, red-carpet shuttle service, refreshments, conversation, new friends, .... Need I go on?

If you only get out on the trail once this year, make this the weekend to do it. And if you are able to help out, that would be great as well! Rick Magyar is coordinating this year’s event, so if you want to help, contact Rick: 715 720-1495 or email standing_turtle@yahoo.com. As usual, shuttle drivers, hosts, refreshment makers, etc. are all needed.

For more information, check the article on our website. Just go to http://www.iatchippewa.org and click on “What’s New!” on the main page. (Direct link: http://www.greendarner.com/ChippewaMoraine/chapternews/)
A Day To Sweep The Trail: Saturday, Oct. 13
Well, not exactly sweep, but we’ll apply those fall-cleanup urges to the trail by doing a fall pass on one section to cut back invading brush, drag off fallen debris, and get things in order. It should be an interesting day, so come along, bring a lunch if you can stay into the afternoon, and bring gloves.

Meet at 9:30 AM at the Chippewa Moraine visitor center. If you plan to come, it helps to send a message to chapter@iatchippewa.org to let us know you are coming.
Mobile Skills Trailbuilding Project in Waushara County
If you go to Bohn Lake, one of the new jewels along the Ice Age Trail route, you’ll feel right at home. It’s a gorgeous undevelopd kettle lake, and a recent acquisition by the Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation. On Oct. 11-14, a new section of trail along this undeveloped lake will be built by volunteers led by the IAPTF Mobile Skills Crew. The site is near Hancock. For more information, go to http://www.iceagetrail.org/news.htm. There’s a registration link there.
Ice Age Calendar is ON LINE!
Have you discovered how easy it is to find out about Ice Age Trail events, hikes, workdays, meetings, etc. all around the state? Just go to the IAPTF website: www.iceagetrail.org and click on Calendar (it’s the third item from the right on the brown crossbar near the top of the page. Our local events are there as well, although there is often additional information on our chapter website www.iatchippewa.org .
Looking for an Ice Age Trail Shirt?
Just in case you’ve already given everyone on your gift list one of our fine chapter “footprint” Ice Age Trail shirts, there is now a new flavor available online through the Ice Age Trail website. The shirts are screen printed with a big yellow trail “blaze” and the words iceagetrail.org on a light tan colored shirt. They are quite striking, and give you an opportunity to tell quizzical friends what the yellow blazes you’ve been up to (and where they can find out more)! They cost $15 and you can find them at the “Ice Age Trail Store”: http://www.iceagetrail.org/store/store.php?pg1-cid36.html .

Be the first in your town...
See you on the trail...
